platinum express at the isle

Image
We dropped in for a little dancing at the Isle of Capri, when one of our favorite bands made one of their many regular appearances. It was a fun night, but we only took a few photos with the phone. We were much too busy dancing. For those not familiar with the band, they are one of Kansas City's best! A full brass section, playing some of the best tune from the 60s and 70s, their stage performance is second to none. They have quite a following and have a special knack for getting folks out of their seats and dancing. On this night, just a few days before Halloween, many of the troupe were decked out in costume; hence, the strange praying mantis on trumpet.

kc indian festival 2011

We stopped in for another round of Native American dance, food, and culture.  This is always a very relaxing and fun event, with an opportunity to discover much of the history and ways of Native American culture. Arriving late, we missed many of the traditional dance performances, but did catch one in particular; the hoop dance.  As well, had an opportunity to dance in the circle. view more photos from this event

We dropped in on the Missouri State Fair for a brief visit. It was a hot afternoon, and we were on our way to more refreshing destinations involving swimming at the Lake, but it was an interesting visit to an annual event that we rarely seem to find time to visit. there are no more photos from this event

a bayfield walkabout

As the main gateway to this National Park, a little bit of time wandering the streets of Bayfield, Wisconsin fit neatly in the schedule. Accommodations at a nice little roadside motel overlooking Pikes Bay, only 5.5 km from town facilitated the situation nicely. Tucked back away from the road just a little, it boasted fantastic view of the bay, while far enough away from everything to enjoy quiet evenings. Founded in 1856, the town stood primarily as a lumbering and commercial fishing village, nestled along the east side of the northern-most peninsula of Wisconsin, on Chequamegon Bay of Lake Superior. It is named after the explorer Henry Bayfield, a British Royal Topographic Engineer that surveyed Lake Superior, and is the primary launch pad for the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore. An annual regatta, Bayfield Race Week was full sail on arrival, and sailboats lurked everywhere. Watching the race from ...

20th vintage motorcycle rally

Image
The Vintage Motorcycle Rally landed in Kansas City with a variety of old and new bikes, spanning nearly 100 years. With nearly every style, shape, and level of horsepower represented, there were very few average every-day ordinary bikes.  Hosted at the Airline History Museum, and it rained pretty heavy the night before, but they were kind enough to pull the old Connie's out and provide some protection for the inventory, in case the storms fired up again. view more photos from this event
